
Keeping Your Bathroom Infrared Heaters Safe (And Dry)
Let’s be honest: putting electrical heaters in a bathroom is a bit like playing with fire—or in this case, water. You’ve got steam everywhere and constant moisture in the air. Since water and electricity don’t get along, one tiny leak in your insulation can lead to a short circuit or a nasty ground fault. To keep things safe, we obsess over three main things. The Glass and the Seal We use high-grade quartz glass for the lamp envelope. It handles the heat without cracking and acts as a natural shield. But the real secret is the seal where the wires enter the glass. If that seal isn’t airtight, steam creeps inside. Once that happens, the filament oxidizes and just… pops. Gone. That’s why we use a hermetic seal designed for high-humidity cycles. It keeps the internals bone-dry, which is the only way to stop leakage currents from starting. Where the Wires Meet Most failures happen at the connection points. It’s just where things are most vulnerable. To fix this, we use IP-rated enclosures and heat-shrink insulation on every terminal. We also throw in ceramic insulators at the mounting points so the current doesn’t decide to jump over to the metal chassis. And a quick tip on wiring: please, skip the standard PVC. It just can’t handle the combo of heat and dampness. Go with silicone or Teflon-coated wiring instead. It lasts way longer and won’t degrade when things get steamy. Grounding and Safety Nets Every single unit needs to be bonded to a dedicated ground. We build these systems to trip a GFCI the second any current leaks. It’s the ultimate safety net. Now, here is the trade-off. Better insulation and beefier housings mean the heater takes up more space. It’s not as “slim” or “sleek” as some cheap alternatives. But if you choose a tiny profile over thick insulation, you’re just waiting for the seals to age and the system to fail. It’s a worth-it trade. Just do yourself a favor and check the insulation resistance every few months. It only takes a minute and ensures everything is still running exactly how it should.
